About Us
Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is a community based, not for profit hospital that depends extensively on donations to further its mission.
Nearly 8,000 newborns begin their lives each year at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center - the most of any hospital west of the Mississippi River!
In 1955, the Alta Bates Volunteer Association started the
Cradle Roll
as a way for parents to enhance the hospital's program for mothers and babies. By enrolling in the
Cradle Roll
, parents saw their babies' name and birth date displayed in our "Baby Hall of Fame". These beautifully printed lists of babies who were born at Alta Bates grace the walls throughout the Birth Center.
Donations to the
Cradle Roll
have helped buy needed equipment for the Birth Center and the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. Examples of equipment include rocking chairs, breast pumps, oxygen equipment, prenatal education materials - and so much more.
In 2009, we have launched our new online
Cradle Roll
. This service is completely interactive - it allows the newborn’s parents to share their joy and excitement with family members and friends anywhere in the world.
Parents can;
Post their baby's birth statistics.
Upload photos and videos.
Share thoughts and comments via their private blog.
Invite family and friends to visit their baby's mini-website.
Family and Friends can;
Make virtual visits to see the baby at any time, from anywhere.
Read the parent's blog.
Submit their own comments to the blog.
Upload video messages for the baby and parents.
Buy gifts from the Alta Bates Summit Gift Shop.
The
Cradle Roll
is a free service of the Alta Bates Summit Volunteers and is completely supported by donations. Your support is needed so we can continue the service and provide equipment for the Birth Center.
